Doctor’s Visits

The successful outcome of your surgery is dependent on a constant process of evaluation that occurs at the office visit. Office visits vary by procedure (see below).

At each visit after your surgery, Dr. Gartsman will evaluate your progress and instruct you in specific exercises designed to maximize motion, strength and coordination. This is not the type of surgery that can be performed with success without your help. A successful result requires that patient, surgeon and therapist work together. Regular office visits are a critical part of your care.

Doctor’s visit - Rotator cuff/glenohumeral/scope arthritis/contracture

Your first office visit is two weeks after surgery so that Dr. Gartsman can examine the surgical incision. He will give you additional instructions for exercises and discuss your allowed activity level. Six weeks after surgery, more vigorous use of the shoulder will be allowed. Office visits then occur three, six and 12 months after your surgery.

Doctor’s visit - Labrum tear

Your first office visit is three weeks after surgery so that Dr. Gartsman can examine the surgical incision. He will give you additional instructions for exercises and discuss your allowed activity level. Six weeks after surgery, more vigorous use of the shoulder will be allowed. Office visits then occur three, six and 12 months after your surgery.

Doctor’s visit – Irreparable rotator cuff repair/acromioplasty

Your first office visit is three weeks after surgery so that Dr. Gartsman can examine the surgical incision. He will give you additional instructions for exercises and discuss your allowed activity level. Six weeks after surgery, more vigorous use of the shoulder will be allowed. Office visits then occur three and six months after your surgery, if necessary.
